Self-awareness

What is self-awareness?Self-awareness is having a clear perception of your personality including :

  • Strength 
  • Weaknesses 
  • Beliefs 
  • Thoughts 
  • Motivation 
Self-awareness is important because when we have a better understanding of ourselves we are able to experience ourselves as unique and separate individuals. We are then empowered to make changes and to build on our areas of strength as well as identity areas where we would like to make improvements. 

Emotions There are two forms of self -awareness :

  • Conceptual self-awareness 
What we think about ourselves, which may include judgements, evaluations, logical conclusions and things that are easy to put word's to.

  • Embodied self -awareness 
Which includes registering various types of inner states. 

An individual who is self-aware of the is able to understand what his/her strengths and weaknesses of others. Self-awareness is how an individual an individual consciously knows and understandtheir own character, feelings, motives and desires.


Self-awareness means knowing your values, personality, needs, habits, emotions, strengths, weakness etc. With a sense of who you are and a vision of the person you want to become, a plan for professional or personal development can be created.
